Where Is Wisdom?
As I read Today’s Proverbs, I feel God is reminding me of 2 things.
- Wisdom is not some hidden nugget only to be found by the “enlightened”.
- The gaining and use of wisdom takes extreme dedication.
Today, the word “wisdom” is used in 3 ways. They are all really close and similar. However there is one use today that I think you’ll find interesting. In verse 3 we see the term “instruction of wisdom”. “Instruction” here has the idea of chastening and correction. The word “wisdom” here in verse 3 has the word “circumspectly” woven throughout the Hebrew term.
God used this word “circumspectly” to remind me of a verse in the New Testament [Ephesians 5:15] that helps drive today’s point home for me. It is a word with a military type meaning. It means to be alert on all sides with a military diligence and precision, much like that of a martial artist. So that word [circumspectly], is tucked away a little deeper in the meaning of a Hebrew word used for “wisdom” in Today’s Proverbs.
I did Google Search for the term, “how to gain wisdom” and found this article on wikiHow.com’s website. This article about gaining wisdom, no doubt. However, it in no way portrays the military style diligence found in Today’s Proverbs. I have the feeling there is a hint of the “everybody gets a trophy” mentality over at wikiHow on this one. I could be wrong. Suffice it to say, that the gaining of wisdom is not for the faint [Hebrews 11:6 – see the word “diligently”].
